Game Direction

Core Pillars
My main role in this project served as a Game Designer and Asset Creation Artist.
Apart from our main roles, we all had interchangeable duties and contributions as Game Design leads where we created  the game flow and mechanics, and communicated about different ways to implement abilities to the characters.

As the main asset creation artist, I was in charge of creating 3 side sprites in the pixel art style for the characters. Top, left and right, and bottom view. Along with the tilemap for the world build.

Leaders: Move up down left right, get soldiers from villages, get hit, have different abilities (dash, attack, block)
Soldiers: Follow the leaders, shoot arrows, get hit, switch to other leaders.
Villages: Generate soldiers, can get destroyed by the boss.
Boss: Attack (stomp), destroy villages, move faster by destroying villages (possibility abilities: charge, cast fire)

Idea sketches

Concept Sketches / Direction
With 2 people being in charge of the coding, I was in charge of making the art assets and characters. The process of development began with a very simple map diagram, and with square sprites as villages and soldiers, place markers for sprites that would soon be drawn by me.

My job was to create 3 main leaders having different abilities and 1 boss character. Along with that, I was in charge of creating the villages that had the soldiers come out from them. My team and I agreed to make this a fun unique experience for the players, so we stuck with having the bear look somewhat non-threatening, yet with threatening abilities.

Final design

Art Design
My team and I were given 2-3 weeks for this game project from start to finish. To save time and set realistic goals, we chose to go with 2D pixel art style as implementing animations on it would be easier along with worldbuilding using tilemaps.

Using the sketches I made, I took my sketches and drew them on Aseprite.
